Polypectomy

Polypectomy

A cervical polypectomy, or polyp removal, is a simple outpatient procedure that usually doesn’t cause pain. The procedure involves using polyp forceps to gently twist or grasp the base of the polyp and remove it. The polyp is removed and the tissue is sent to a lab for testing. The procedure technique used depends on the size and location of the polyp. For example, smaller polyps may be removed with twisting, while larger polyps may require electrocautery or a loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP).

Polypectomy Q&A

What can I expect after the procedure?

You may have some side effects after your vaginal polypectomy. These can include cramping and bleeding. Mild cramping, similar to when you have your period is considered normal. You may also experience light vaginal bleeding which would require a maxi pad or panty liner. If bleeding or cramping becomes severe, please contact the office.
